An interesting new discovery from a team of researchers at The Medical University of Vienna (Austria) demonstrated that a drop in environmental temperature led to an increase in the vitamin A levels (and its blood transporter, retinol-binding protein) of both humans and mice. This phenomenon in turn leads to the conversion of “bad” white adipose (fat) tissue into “good” brown adipose tissue, which ultimately stimulates fat burning and heat generation from the requiring of extra energy. This study, which has since been published in the scientific journal Molecular Metabolism, is now regarded as showing promising potential for the development of novel obesity therapeutics. Most vitamin A is stored in the liver, but as the scientists discovered, the application of even moderate amounts of cold seems to stimulate the redistribution of the vitamin toward fatty tissue.
